Frequently Asked Questions

We only have a few ladies. Is a sanitary disposal unit necessary?

TerraCyclic encourages safe disposal whether you have one female or 100 females in the workplace. Bacteria is said to multiply and double itself every 20 minutes if dressings are not kept in a sanitised state. Flushing can be an embarrassing and expensive exercise if no unit is available. This can also lead to environmental issues. Females even from teenage years can suffer from extremely heavy periods through endometriosis meaning they must change dressings regularly.

Are the units safe to use?

TerraCyclic have designed the units realising the issue of menstruation can be a sensitive one. The units are charged with a proven germicide that produces a vapor to protect the unit from the base to the lid. The unique design means users have the option to dispose of dressings without touching the unit. The unit is approved by MAF C32 and MAF QM ref 1317 approved for food, beverage, dairy farms and factories.

How are the units biodegradable?

TDPA (totally degradable plastic additive) ensures the plastic undergoes oxidative degradation and breaks down into brittle fragments. This happens as a result of exposure to heat or UV light. Microbes can use them as a food source. TDPA has been validated in full scale landfill and composting trials. Even exposure to open air, sunlight and wind will mean that the plastic will degrade minimising pollution and physical harm to wildlife. TDPA is non-toxic to sensitive plants and animals.

Refer ECM BioFilms Inc. website for further details about special plastics that are safer for the planet.
